In order to commemorate the 66th anniversary, Indonesian Teaching and Education Foundation (YPPI) held a social charity. In collaboration with Yayasan Pelita Kasih Surabaya, the activity was packed in form of free treatment and sale of cheap groceries. The charity was held at the parking lot of the University of Widya Kartika on Saturday, June 29, 2013.
To support these activities, the committee had distributed 360 medical cards to the surrounding community. Yulia Setyarini, SE, MA, the chairman of the committee said that social charity is one way to enclose the foundation and the community.
“More recently, the government had raised fuel prices. It would definitely bring an impact to the rising prices of basic goods. So, we wanted to do something that could slightly help the community,” she said.
In the free treatment, there were five doctors on duty in the planning. But apparently, Yayasan Pelita Kasih sent eight doctors. In addition, the pharmacy booth to pick up medication had also been provided. Patients would be served to check of blood pressure, blood sugar, uric acid, cholesterol, and consulted. Free treatment participants could choose one of the services provided.
For cheap groceries sale, the committee had prepared a number of special booths based on the type of goods. The society couldchoose the appropriate choice in buying groceries based on their needs, for example, rice, sugar, cooking oil, instant noodles, and other needs.
“We hope, 360 participants of free treatment can have an equal opportunity to get cheap groceries. The committee has set up about 1000 packagesconsisted of various items of goods, “he continued.
The society enthusiasm wass quite large. Since 09.00, the participants who received the coupon kept on coming. Generally, they come in groups. Although the doctor in charge had not come, the free treatment participant still did the registration orderly.
Complaints about the health from free medical participants are various. “I was often ached, my back constantly hurttoo often. Easy to suffer it, “explained a patient to a doctor who examined him. With friendly and nimble, eight doctors on duty served the patients in turns. If necessary, the committee had prepared a special bed for the examination of certain diseases.
After getting checked and drug free of charge, voucher holders could shop for groceries at low prices. For example, rice was sold at 12 thousandsrupiah per 2 kilo, cooking oil priced at 15 thousands rupiah per 2 liters, sugar 8 thousandsrupiah per kilo, instant noodles 5 thousands rupiah per package with 5 packs each, and so forth. From the registration list, there were at least 250 patients who came for treatment. The committee was still accepting patients who wanted to have a check-up even without coupons. The prepared food packages also sold out.
Yulia Setyarini, SE, MA, provided in-depth appreciation of the society’s enthusiasm. The response indicated that the activities were well received. “Hopefully what we’ve created could bring benefits to the society,”s he said.
She explained, to celebrate the 66th Anniversary of YPPI, the committee had designed a number of activities. Besides this Charity of Cheap Groceries Sale and Free Treatment, there would also be a ceremonial event that would be held on July 1, 2013. “We are also preparing activities to deliver free school needs for community of street children and schools which needed it. The plan will be conducted in the month of July,”she concluded.
